How do I edit the auto-generated YouTube captions?

You will learn how to edit the automatically generated video captions on your YouTube videos.

1. Getting to the YouTube Caption Editor

On the YouTube home page:

1.) Click your User Account Icon in the top-right corner.

2.) Select YouTube Studio

Navigate to the YouTube Home page and sign in.
Go to your Creator Studio

From the Creator Studio Home page, navigate to the "Subtitles" Tab

From the Creator Studio Home page, navigate to your Subtitles Tab

In the Video tab, select a video you would like to edit the captions for.

In the Video tab, select a video you would like to edit the captions for.

Click "Duplicate and Edit" in the Video Subtitles screen.

Click "Duplicate and Edit" to the right of the automatically generated subtitles.
2. Editing Transcripts/Captions

General Overview:

1.) Timing/Transcript view

2.) Edit the caption text.

3.) Adjust timing by stretching/shortening caption box and moving the caption on the audio timeline.

4.) Publish edits.

You can 1.) Change between timing and transcript view, 2.) Edit the caption text, 3.) Adjust timing by stretching or shortening caption box and moving the caption on the audio timeline, and 4.) Publish edits.

Once you have pressed "Publish edits", the subtitles will be queued for publishing, and will be available when publishing is complete.
