Instructors | Edit closed captioning of VoiceThread videos

Instructors will learn how to edit closed captioning of their VoiceThread videos within Canvas. This guide will assume that you are creating a new VoiceThread in your Canvas course. You can also add closed captioning to an existing VoiceThread within your Canvas course.

2. Find and select the VoiceThread assignment

Navigate to the Course Navigation menu and click the Assignments tab.

Your VoiceThread assignment will have a unique title that you created. For the purposes of this tutorial, the VoiceThread assignment is titled "VoiceThread Assignment view."

4. Play the VoiceThread video

Click on the link for your VoiceThread video.

5. Edit auto generated captions

Hover over the square on the left hand side that corresponds to the part that you would like to edit the captions for, and click the CC button on the top right of the box that pops out. Depending on the length of the segment, it might take VoiceThread up to 10 minutes to create auto generated captions that you can edit.

Once you have clicked the CC button, click the box that says "Edit Captions." If you do not see this box, wait a few minutes and press the refresh button at the top of the page - VoiceThread is still generating the captions for you.

This will bring up the Captions Editor, with which you can edit any mistakes made by the machine that made your captions.

Once you are done editing captions, click the "Save Captions" button and your changes will be saved.
