Students | How to create a new VoiceThread in Canvas

This tutorial will show students how to create a VoiceThread to satisfy a "Create or Upload" Type of VoiceThread assignment in a Canvas course. 

  1. Login to myHumboldt
  2. Click on Canvas and go into your course
  3. Click on the VoiceThread link provided by your instructor. (This link will have a unique title created by your instructor.)

2. Create new VoiceThread

3. Add content

Click on + Add Media and choose the type of media you would like to add. This will be in the form of media files which can include: PDF, PowerPoint, Audio Recording, Webcam photos, Webcam videos, images, etc.

4. Title your VoiceThread

5. Add a comment

Click Comment

Then click on the + comment icon located on the bottom of the VoiceThread.

Choose the type of comment you would like to make

The numbers in this picture correspond with the type of comments listed below. Please click on the types of comments to see how to leave that type of comment.

5.1. Text comment
ABC logo for written comment
  1. Click ABC
  2. Type your comment
  3. Click Save
5.2. Audio from a telephone

  1. Click the telephone icon
  2. Enter your 10-didget phone number (Numbers only! No spaces or dashes)
  3. Click Call me
  4. When your phone rings, answer it and record your comment after the beep
  5. Hang up to save your comment
5.3. Audio from a microphone

  1. Click the microphone icon
  2. Click Allow on the Flash Player permissions box
  3. After the countdown, begin recording your audio comment
  4. Click Stop Recording when you are finished recording your comment
  5. Click Save if you are satisfied with your audio, or click Cancel to record a new audio
5.4. Video from a webcam

  1. Click the video icon
  2. Click Allow on the Flash Player permissions box
  3. After the countdown, begin recording your video comment
  4. Click Stop Recording when you are finished recording your comment
  5. Click Save if you are satisfied with your audio, or click Cancel to record a new video
5.5. Upload an external video or audio file

  1. Click the upload icon
  2. Browse for the video or audio file you wish to upload, select it, and click Enter
  3. Wait for your file to upload, then click OK

6. When finished, exit out of the VoiceThread

Click the X

Select the X on the lower far right

7. Submit the assignment

Click Submit Assignment

8. Preview and submit your VoiceThread assignment

  1. The title you gave your VoiceThread Assignment
  2. Click Preview to preview your VoiceThread
  3. If you are satisfied, click Submit Assignment. Also, Click share with class if your instructor requires classmates to comment on your VoiceThread.

Congratulations! You have successfully created a new VoiceThread and shared it with your class.
