Start using W.W. Norton Digital Resources in my Canvas course

In this tutorial, you will learn how to incorporate W.W. Norton Digital Resources in your Canvas course. This will allow students to view the ebook and complete listening guides / chapter quizzes.

Access to W.W. Norton Digital Resources requires puchase of a textbook that includes digital access or direct purchase of digital access. ($50)

All links to Digital Resource content will be available by contacting W.W. Norton directly.

1. Add a module item to access the Norton Digital Landing Page

Find or create a Canvas module where you'd like to put links to Norton material.

To create a module, click the + Module button in the upper right corner of the Modules screen.

Name your Module and click Add Module.

Click the '+' within the desired Module to add a Module Item.

From the dropdown menu, select External Tool.

In the URL box, type or paste the address for your textbook's digital landing page.

    - e.g. https://ncia.wwnorton.com/enjmusic12s

Name your page and check the box to Load in a new tab. This will cause the Norton Digital Resources page to load in a new tab outside of Canvas for usability.

Click Add Item.

Click on your new link. If you chose to open the link in a new tab, click the button to open the link.

3. Log in to W.W. Norton Digital Resources

When you first arrive at this page, you will be asked to login or register. Log in with your Norton credentials.

4. Create a new Student Set

You will then be asked to create a new student set.

1.  Select option #2

2.  Then find your course from the drop down menu.

3.  Click Next.

4.  Fill in your course and institution information, and click Create Student Set.

5.  Review your information and click Confirm.

6.  The student set has been created. Click OK.

5. Decide how to incorporate Norton Digital Resources

Now that you have linked your Canvas course with Norton's Digital Resources, you will have to decide how you would like to incorporate these resources.

Option #1 - Assignment categories

                  You can link from a single Canvas assignment to an entire category of

                  Norton assignments (e.g. Listening Guides, Chapter Quizzes)

Option #2 - Individual assignments

                  You can use the links from individual Norton assignments to create

                  assignments in Canvas

Option #3 - Simple link

                 Use this option if you just want to redirect students to the Norton

                 Digital Resources page without linking to Canvas for grading.

                 If you want to use this option, you are already done!
